Frequently Asked Questions

How long will my headshot session take?

Corporate headshots are usually on location and on a schedule. When that's the case, I only need about 5 minutes with each person to take several good shots to choose from. I can easily get 6-10 people in an hour when we're dealing with a large group and tight schedules.

A studio or location session with 1 person is 45-60 minutes and I encourage you to bring more than one outfit or jacket/sweater/top to create several looks and images to choose from.

What should I wear?

Choose clothing/an outfit that is something you like, something that you know looks good on you,  something appropriate to your field of business, and something that fits well. Nothing too baggy or too tight. Nothing too busy or too seasonal! Make sure it’s pressed. Having clothes that you’re comfortable in will communicate confidence in your headshot. If you're unsure, bring a few things to choose from and I can help you choose.

I'm uncomfortable in front of the camera. How can you help?

Communicate any concerns you have with me before the session. My eyes disappear when I smile too big or if I’m laughing. Some people blink a lot when they have their photo taken. Some people know ahead of time that their fake smile looks fake and forced. These are all things that I can help you with and can suggest ways to make you look and feel most comfortable in front of the camera.

I hate all pictures of myself. How can you help?

Sometimes it's just that you've never had a good professional photograph taken of you by a good photographer! Good lighting and good posing makes a huge difference. I can help!

What else can I do to prepare for my headshot session?

  • Think about what you want to communicate about yourself -- for some people it’s most important that they look friendly and approachable, for others it’s most important that they look tough, professional, and capable. Knowing that we are working towards the same goal will put you at ease.
  • Practice your smile in the mirror-- a smile with teeth showing, a smile with no teeth showing and more serious face with just a hint of smile. Think of photos that you like of yourself and what you like about how you’re smiling in those shots.
  • Be hydrated and rested. Drink plenty of water the day before, and get a good night’s sleep the night before. Your skin and face will thank you!
